When pushing through stops working

You keep thinking things will feel better once you catch up.

Once work settles down.

Once the kids need less.

Once you get through this project.

Once you finally clear the to do list.

But somehow, there is always something else.

You may still be getting everything done - or enough of it that other people don’t realize how depleted you feel.

Inside, though, you may be wondering:

How long can I keep doing this?

You may have been telling yourself:

It’s just a busy season.

Sometimes it is.

But when every season starts feeling busy, or you can no longer remember the last time you felt truly caught up or rested, it may be worth paying attention.

Let’s use therapy to understand what’s been keeping you in survival mode. We can work together to begin to create more room for rest, connection and the parts of yourself that have been pushed aside.

You feel like you’re drowning

You’re tired all the time - the kind that sleep doesn’t fix.

You’re still fuming hours later about the person who cut you off in traffic.

Every morning seems to be starting with a headache.

Sarcasm is becoming your second language.

You’ve run out of cares to give - at work, with your family… about so much.

There is simply too much for too long.

It doesn’t have to stay this way.

Parents Can Burn Out, Too

Parenting adds an extraordinary amount of invisible work.

Remembering.

Planning.

Anticipating.

Scheduling.

Supporting.

Managing everyone else’s emotions while trying to manage your own.

No matter the age or stage - our kids need A LOT from us.

When other stressors are pulling at us - we don’t always feel like we have the energy to show up the way we want to as parents.

You can love your family deeply and still need more support.

We can use therapy to explore boundaries, communication, division of responsibilities, expectations, and what you need - not only what everyone around you needs.

When Your Work Is Taking Care of Everyone Else

If your work asks you to care for, teach, lead, heal, support, or respond to other people all day…

it can be easy to reach the end of the day with very little left for yourself.

Maybe you’re still doing your job well, but it takes more out of you than it used to.

You notice less patience, more dread, emotional numbness, or that you’re completely depleted by the time you get home.

And because you’re the person others rely on, it can feel especially hard to admit that you need support, too.

Caring deeply about your work doesn’t protect you from burnout.

Overwhelm & Burnout Often Overlap With Depression, Anxiety & ADHD.

Burnout can look a lot like depression, and chronic anxiety or ADHD can make it harder to ever truly feel caught up.

Sometimes the label matters less than understanding what is draining you and what needs to change.

You’re in the right place.

What does therapy for overwhelm & burnout look like with me?

Rocker at Wayfinder Counseling office in Williston VT

My approach is warm, compassionate and practical.

I am not interested in helping you become even better at squeezing more into your day.

Sometimes the bigger question is:

Why are you responsible for so much in the first place?

Together, we may look at:

  • Patterns of over functioning

  • Difficulty asking for / accepting help

  • Boundaries

  • Guilt around rest

  • Chronic self criticism

  • What keeps getting pushed to the bottom of your own list

  • What actually restores you—and whether there is enough room for it

The goal is not to create the perfect routine.

It is to build a life that feels more sustainable.

What progress can look like

Going to bed before everything is done.

Realizing that an email can wait until tomorrow.

Catching yourself before saying yes automatically.

Asking your partner to carry more of the mental load.

Having fun without mentally reviewing your to-do list the entire time.

Noticing overwhelm before it turns into irritability.

Letting something be “good enough.”

A free 15-minute consultation gives us a chance to talk about what’s been happening, answer questions, and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
